Mohamed Salah has expressed his frustration with Liverpool for not offering him a new contract, indicating that he feels more likely to leave than stay as his current deal nears its end. The 32-year-old forward, who has netted 12 goals across all competitions this season, is set to become a free agent at the end of the 2024/25 season. Salah’s recent performance, scoring twice in Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Southampton, helped the team extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table by eight points.
Despite his contributions, Salah’s comments after the match suggest a potential departure. He mentioned that, with December approaching, he has yet to receive any contract extension offers from the club, making him feel “more out than in.” Salah, who joined Liverpool in 2017 and has since won both the Champions League and Premier League, emphasized that staying is not within his control, even though he has a deep appreciation for the club.
Salah is not alone in this situation, as fellow key players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also nearing the end of their contracts, set to expire at the conclusion of the season. All three will be free to negotiate with overseas clubs starting in January if no extensions are signed.
When asked about his disappointment over the lack of an offer, Salah confirmed his feelings, stating that he loves the fans and they reciprocate that sentiment. However, he reiterated that the decision is out of both his and the fans’ hands. For now, Salah remains focused on the current season, aiming to win the Premier League and, hopefully, the Champions League, despite his disappointment over the contract situation.
