Mike Tyson faces mid-flight medical scare before July 20 comeback fight

Veteran boxer Mike Tyson is in good health following a reported ‘health scare’ on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles on Sunday, May 26. The former heavyweight champion is currently preparing for his comeback fight at the age of 57 against YouTuber Jake Paul, scheduled for July 20.

In Touch Weekly reported that Tyson experienced a medical issue during the flight, necessitating paramedics’ assistance upon landing.

A representative for Tyson released a statement clarifying the incident, saying: “Thankfully, Mr. Tyson is doing great. He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing. He is grateful to the medical staff who assisted him.”

The statement also addressed rumors that Tyson’s medical issue caused a flight delay, stating: “It’s false reporting that his medical attention caused the flight delay. The two-hour delay was due to an air conditioning issue on the aircraft.”

By the time Tyson faces Paul in the fight on July 20, he will have celebrated his 58th birthday. Initially promoted as an exhibition match, the fight has since been upgraded to a professional bout and will be streamed live on Netflix.

This fight marks Tyson’s return to the ring nearly two decades after his last professional match. He will be 31 years older than his opponent, Jake Paul, at the time of the bout.

The fight will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and will consist of eight two-minute rounds with both fighters using 14-ounce gloves.

As a professional fight, the outcome will impact the records of both Tyson and Paul. Tyson, a former heavyweight champion, holds a professional record of 50-6. His last fight was in 2005, and his last victory came in 2003.

Jake Paul, who transitioned from YouTuber to boxer, has a professional record of 9-1, with most of his victories coming against former UFC fighters turned boxers, including Ben Askren, Anderson Silva, and Nate Diaz.
