Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati conveyed to British Foreign Minister David Lammy during a phone call the “urgent need to pressure the Israeli enemy to halt its direct attacks on southern towns and villages,” following an Israeli airstrike in the Nabatieh region that resulted in the deaths of 10 Syrian civilians and left many others injured.
Mikati warned Lammy that “the ongoing cycle of violence could escalate with severe consequences,” according to a statement from his office.
In response to the airstrike, the Syrian foreign ministry condemned the action, describing it as “a blatant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and a threat to peace and security in the region.”
