Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati of Lebanon has been actively engaged in international communications in recent days, aiming to avert a large-scale war in Lebanon, according to a source from the ministry.
These efforts by Mikati have reportedly been successful in preventing the escalation of the conflict, as stated by sources to the ad-Diyar newspaper.
Since the onset of the conflict between Hamas and Israel on October 7, the border between Lebanon and Israel has been the site of almost daily exchanges of fire. This conflict primarily involves the Israeli army and Hezbollah. The AFP reports that since October 7, over 200 individuals, predominantly members of Hezbollah, have been killed in South Lebanon due to Israeli military actions. On the Israeli side, there have been nine military and six civilian casualties.
The conflict has also led to the displacement of thousands of people on both sides of the border. Israel has issued warnings that it is prepared to employ military force to ensure the return of its settlers to their homes.
