Mbappe Faces Rape Allegations in Sweden

Real Madrid star and captain of the French national football team, Kylian Mbappé, is reportedly under investigation by Swedish authorities in connection to a rape allegation, according to media outlets in Sweden. Reports on Tuesday, October 15, from Swedish sources claim that Mbappé has been accused of rape and sexual assault in Stockholm. However, the 2018 World Cup winner has firmly denied the accusations, labeling them as “fake news.”

Is Mbappé facing legal trouble?

The Swedish newspaper *Aftonbladet* first reported the alleged incident, and *Expressen* later confirmed that the individual in question is 25-year-old Mbappé. Currently sidelined with an injury, Mbappé is not part of the French national team competing in the Nations League.

*Expressen* noted, “According to information obtained, police are investigating the star, who is reasonably suspected of rape and sexual assault.” Despite these claims, when contacted by *AFP*, representatives for Mbappé denied any knowledge of the allegations and expressed surprise at the complaint originating from Stockholm. The accusation reportedly stems from an alleged incident that took place in central Stockholm while Mbappé was not engaged in club or national team activities.

A Swedish prosecutor confirmed to *AFP* that “an investigation is underway into a crime reported on October 10 in central Stockholm.”

In response to the allegations, Mbappé took to social media, posting on his X account (formerly Twitter) to dismiss the claims. “FAKE NEWS!!!! It’s becoming so predictable, on the eve of the hearing, as if by chance,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, reports from Spanish media indicate that Real Madrid held an emergency meeting on Monday, October 14, to address the situation. No specific details about the meeting were disclosed, but the club reportedly intends to wait for further developments before taking any action. Mbappé is expected to return to the pitch once he recovers from his injury.
