Live Nation revealed in a regulatory filing on Friday that a hacker is selling purported user data primarily from Ticketmaster on the dark web. The parent company of Ticketmaster detected “unauthorized activity” on May 20 and immediately initiated an investigation with forensic experts to assess the potential breach.
According to the filing, the data was put up for sale on May 27. Live Nation has since been collaborating with law enforcement agencies. The company is also notifying relevant regulatory authorities and affected users about the unauthorized access to personal information.
Live Nation assured that the hack has not impacted its financial status or business operations. Reports from industry publications suggest that a group named ShinyHunters has claimed responsibility for the breach. Despite multiple requests for comments, Ticketmaster has yet to confirm the extent of the hack.
This incident compounds a challenging year for the ticketing giant. Recently, the US government, along with numerous states, filed a lawsuit against Live Nation, accusing Ticketmaster of abusing its market dominance to the detriment of fans across the country.
