Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Presidential Envoy for Lebanon, is set to arrive in Beirut next week to focus on the presidential election process, as reported by the media on Sunday.
Le Drian’s agenda includes appointments with key Lebanese political figures. He is scheduled to meet with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Wednesday, according to information provided to ad-Diyar newspaper by a knowledgeable source.
The source also mentioned that the lead-up to Le Drian’s visit doesn’t seem to indicate any new initiatives being brought forth.
Additionally, the French Ambassador to Lebanon, HervĂ© Magro, informed the Lebanese-French Parliamentary Friendship Committee about France’s coordination with Saudi Arabia and Qatar regarding the presidential file. Magro highlighted that Le Drian’s visit is backed by the five-nation group on Lebanon, which includes the United States, France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Egypt.
