Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Special Presidential Envoy for Lebanon, is scheduled to arrive in Beirut on Tuesday evening for an official visit lasting until Friday, as reported by al-Joumhouria newspaper on Monday.
During his visit, Le Drian plans to meet with various state officials and leaders of parliamentary blocs, aiming to reinitiate dialogue about his earlier proposals concerning the presidential situation in Lebanon.
According to sources cited by the newspaper, Le Drian is optimistic that the responses he received to questions posed to Members of Parliament in mid-August are still relevant and open for discussion.
Al-Binaa newspaper, quoting well-informed sources, mentioned that prior to his anticipated visit to Lebanon, Le Drian had visited Qatar and Saudi Arabia. He has also been in continuous communication with American and Egyptian officials, discussing the Lebanese crisis.
These sources believe that Le Drian will likely bring new proposals to Lebanon, formulated after consulting with the capitals of the five-nation group concerned with Lebanese affairs.
His discussions with Lebanon’s political leaders will focus on reinvigorating the process of the presidential election and resolving the current power vacuum as quickly as possible.
