The talks also touched on the importance of continued coordination between the US and Jordan regarding regional issues.
Following Iran’s recent attack on Israel, the Jordanian government has been vocal in calling for restraint from all involved parties. During a cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh, Jordanian leaders stressed the critical need for de-escalation and responsible actions by all parties to maintain international peace and security.
The Jordanian government reassured its citizens that the country was operating normally, with essential services like education and healthcare continuing uninterrupted. The government also expressed its full support for the Jordanian Armed Forces in maintaining national security.
Early on Sunday, residents of Amman reported seeing and hearing unusual activity in the skies, causing widespread alarm. The government confirmed that it had intercepted foreign objects in Jordanian airspace to ensure the safety of its citizens and residential areas. Although debris fell in various locations, there were no significant damages or injuries.
The government also noted that the Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission (CARC) was closely monitoring the situation and had temporarily shut down Jordanian airspace, which has since been reopened.
The announcement of the phone call between President Biden and King Abdullah was later included in updates to clarify the discussions that took place regarding the situation.
