Video: Israeli strike kills two Hezbollah fighters in Syria

An Israeli drone strike in central Syria on Saturday resulted in the deaths of two Hezbollah fighters from Lebanon, according to a war monitor.

“An Israeli drone launched two missiles at a Hezbollah car and truck near the town of Qusayr in Homs province, as they were heading to al-Dabaa military airport. This attack killed at least two Hezbollah fighters and injured others,” reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

This was the third attack targeting Hezbollah in Syria within about a week.

On Monday, Israeli strikes in the Qusayr area, near the Lebanese border, killed eight pro-Iranian fighters, the Observatory stated. A Hezbollah source confirmed that at least one Hezbollah fighter was among those killed.

Another strike on May 18 targeted a “Hezbollah commander and his companion,” according to the Observatory, though no casualties were reported.

Israel typically does not comment on specific strikes in Syria but has consistently stated it will not permit Iran, its arch-enemy, to strengthen its foothold there.

Since the onset of the Syrian civil war, Israel has conducted hundreds of strikes in Syria, primarily targeting military positions and Iran-backed fighters, including those from Hezbollah.

The frequency of these strikes has increased since October 7, when the Iran-backed Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an unprecedented attack against Israel from the Gaza Strip.

The Syrian conflict has claimed more than half a million lives and displaced millions since it began in 2011, following the Syrian government’s crackdown on anti-government protests.
