A Lebanese security official reported that an Israeli airstrike killed four Hezbollah members on Thursday as they were traveling in a vehicle in southern Lebanon, marking another incident in ongoing cross-border tensions.
Hezbollah retaliated by attacking newly placed electronic systems at the Ramia post and confirmed the loss of three of its members.
The security official, who wished to remain anonymous due to not being cleared to talk to the media, detailed that the attack occurred near Baflay, close to the coastal town of Tyre, roughly 15 kilometers from the border.
Following the incident, civil defense teams responded to an Israeli airstrike that struck a vehicle on Baflay’s main road, killing four people and causing a fire.
In a related event, the Israeli military disclosed that a mortar fired from Lebanon killed an Israeli soldier on Wednesday, the third Israeli to die within a week due to incidents on the northern border.
In retaliation, Israeli jets targeted Hezbollah military sites in southern Lebanon on Wednesday.
An airstrike in the border town of Odaisseh resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including two Hezbollah members, according to another Lebanese security source. Additionally, the Islamic Jihad Palestinian militant group reported that three of its fighters were killed in a separate strike on the village of Khiam.
Overall, cross-border violence over the past seven months has resulted in the deaths of at least 399 people in Lebanon, predominantly militants but also over 70 civilians. Meanwhile, Israel has reported 14 military and nine civilian casualties.
The ongoing conflict has displaced tens of thousands of people on both sides of the border.
Furthermore, a Lebanese official reported that Israeli bombings in southern Lebanon since the start of the conflict with Hamas have caused damages exceeding $1.5 billion.
