Tom Holland, known for his role as Spider-Man, made headlines recently not for his film work but due to a suspected hack on his social media account. Holland, who typically has a low profile online, raised eyebrows when a post appeared on his account on the social media platform X on April 16. The post, which has since been deleted, seemed to promote a new cryptocurrency called $SPIDER coin, allegedly tied to a Spider-Verse project.
Fans were puzzled by this unusual activity, given Holland’s infrequent posts. The post invited his followers to sign up early for the new digital currency, sparking speculation that his account may have been compromised. Additionally, Holland’s account bio was temporarily changed to include a link to the supposed crypto partnership.
Further adding to the suspicion was another post that featured a selfie of an unknown individual, likely the hacker, alongside a caption referencing a scene from an early 2000s Spider-Man film directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire.
Both the crypto-related post and the mysterious selfie were later removed from Holland’s account.
The incident led to a mix of reactions from Holland’s fans on social media. Some expressed relief that the actor had not actually endorsed a cryptocurrency, while others took the opportunity to humorously comment on the strange situation. There were also fans who lamented that the hacker missed a chance to generate fake teasers for a nonexistent “Spider-Man 4.”
