During a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates, Wafiq Safa, who leads Hezbollah’s Coordination and Liaison Committee, conveyed to Emirati officials that Hezbollah is prepared to cease hostilities on the southern front of Lebanon, according to a report in the media.
The organization is also open to the idea of establishing a “demilitarized zone” along the Blue Line, which would be manned exclusively by the Lebanese Army and UNIFIL peacekeepers, as reported by sources familiar with Hezbollah’s stance in an article by Asharq al-Awsat, a Saudi Arabian newspaper.
The sources added that Safa discussed with the Emiratis the necessity of reaching an agreement on land border demarcation post-ceasefire, similar to the prior agreement on maritime boundaries.
