Hezbollah launches 100 rockets into Golan, Israel retaliates near Baalbek, resulting in one casualty

On Tuesday, Hezbollah launched a significant attack, firing 100 rockets at military targets in the Golan Heights, marking one of the most intense assaults from Lebanon since the Gaza conflict began. The Israeli military reported that these projectiles were fired from Lebanon into Israel, prompting Israeli forces to retaliate with airstrikes on Sareen and al-Nabi Sheet, located near Baalbek in northeastern Lebanon. Earlier, Israeli airstrikes had targeted the southern towns of Houla and Markaba.

The airstrikes in the Baalbek area resulted in at least one fatality and eight injuries, following a previous day’s strikes that caused one death and six injuries. Hezbollah stated that this barrage of over a hundred Katyusha rockets was aimed at the Air and Missile Defense Command at the Kaila’ Barracks, as well as a missile and artillery base in Yo’av, as retribution for Israeli actions against Lebanese people and the killing of a citizen in Baalbek.

In response to Hezbollah’s actions, the Israeli military conducted strikes targeting Hezbollah’s aerial force facilities in Lebanon as a countermeasure for the attacks directed towards the Golan Heights. Further aggression saw Hezbollah attacking the al-Raheb post in northern Israel and Israeli forces targeting al Khiam and a residential area in Bint Jbeil, causing civilian injuries.

Since the conflict’s inception on October 7, the clashes between Israel and Hezbollah have led to the deaths of more than 220 Hezbollah fighters and nearly 40 Lebanese civilians. On the Israeli side, the conflict has claimed the lives of nine soldiers and 10 civilians, causing the displacement of tens of thousands from both Lebanon and Israel.
