Hezbollah announced on Saturday that it had targeted Israel’s Meron air control base with guided missiles in retaliation for the assassination of senior military commander Taleb Abdallah. The attack reportedly destroyed parts of the base’s equipment and radars.
This follows a previous attack on the Meron base by Hezbollah on Wednesday, which was part of a larger missile and drone offensive against Israel following Abdallah’s death.
In another statement, Hezbollah claimed it launched a guided missile at the Hadb Yaroun Israeli post near the border, causing “deaths and injuries.”
Additionally, an Israeli drone strike targeted a motorbike on the road between Bint Jbeil and Aitaroun, resulting in casualties. According to the National News Agency, the strike killed one person and injured another. The Israeli army stated that the strike was aimed at a militant.
Hezbollah, which is allied with Hamas, has been engaged in near-daily clashes with Israeli forces amidst Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hamas in Gaza. This fighting has intensified in recent weeks, raising concerns about a potential full-scale war on the Lebanon-Israel front.
Since early October, the violence has resulted in the deaths of at least 470 people in Lebanon, most of whom were fighters, though 91 civilians were also killed, according to an AFP tally. In northern Israel, at least 15 soldiers and 11 civilians have been killed, according to Israeli authorities.
