The upcoming Harry Potter series is expected to delve deeper into the story than a typical two-hour movie, according to HBO’s TV chief Channing Dungey. During a recent media summit, Dungey, who serves as the chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group, confirmed the exciting news.
As the leader of one of the world’s largest television studios, responsible for hit shows like *Shrinking*, *Abbott Elementary*, and *Ted Lasso*, Dungey is well aware of the anticipation surrounding the Harry Potter series.
When asked for details about the show, she responded, “There isn’t much to reveal right now. We have an incredible writing team on board, and they’re hard at work. Casting is underway in the UK and Ireland, and everything is progressing well.”
When further questioned about the excitement of adapting JK Rowling’s iconic books, Dungey said, “It’s honestly a dream come true. As a huge fan of the books, the chance to explore them in greater detail, beyond what’s possible in a two-hour movie, is the reason we’re embarking on this journey.”
Back in June, Francesca Gardiner was named the series’ writer and showrunner, with Mark Mylod set to direct multiple episodes. Both are Emmy winners for their work on HBO’s *Succession* — Gardiner as part of the production team and Mylod as a director and producer.
The Harry Potter series is based on JK Rowling’s bestselling books, which were previously adapted into an eight-part film series that became massive box office successes and remain beloved by fans around the world.
