Gaza’s Largest Hospital Faces Vital Medical Services Collapse, Says Doctors Without Borders

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, has reported a severe collapse of vital medical services at Nasser Hospital, the largest operational hospital in the Gaza Strip. According to MSF’s statement on Friday, the hospital’s surgical capacity has been drastically reduced. The remaining medical staff, facing a shortage of supplies, are struggling to manage mass casualty events, such as large numbers of wounded individuals. MSF noted that at least one patient died on Wednesday due to the absence of an orthopedic surgeon.

The situation is further complicated by the difficulty in resupplying the hospital. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), highlighted that restocking essential supplies at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis is challenging because of the intense conflict in the area. He mentioned that hundreds of patients and health workers have fled the hospital, leaving behind about 350 patients and 5,000 displaced persons seeking refuge there.

In addition, the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported on Friday that their headquarters in the Al-Amal Hospital building in Khan Younis, surrounded by Israeli tanks, was being hit by shrapnel.

The Israeli military has claimed that Hamas militants are operating from inside the Al-Amal and Nasser hospitals. However, these claims have not been independently verified by CNN.
