The Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) has commented on the Lebanese Forces’ (LF) position regarding the extension of Army chief General Joseph Aoun’s term. The FPM stated that there is no need for the LF to feel pressured or to explain their reasons for supporting the extension.
The FPM pointed out that the LF has changed its earlier stance of not participating in any legislative sessions by proposing a draft law for the extension and agreeing to attend a session with many non-essential agenda items. This shift in behavior, according to the FPM, has made it evident to the public that the LF is influenced by external forces, specifically referencing U.S. and French representatives.
Furthermore, the FPM criticized the LF, asserting that their professed commitment to national sovereignty and independent decision-making are merely superficial slogans and a matter of perspective, rather than genuine guiding principles.
