During a recent operation in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, Israeli soldiers killed four Palestinians. According to the Palestinian health ministry, these individuals were killed in the town of Azzun.
The Wafa news agency reported that the fatalities occurred amidst clashes that broke out when Israeli troops conducted a raid in the area. The agency detailed that the Israeli soldiers used live ammunition, stun grenades, and tear gas against the residents during the raid. Additionally, it was reported that the troops conducted searches in homes and businesses and collected surveillance footage from various shops.
The Israeli army stated that the troops were responding to militants who had opened fire and thrown explosives at them. They reported that four “terrorists” were killed in a firefight, and three locally made submachine guns were confiscated. The army also mentioned that one soldier was moderately injured in the incident.
In another incident in the town of Qalqilya, the army reported neutralizing a Palestinian militant who fired at them. The specifics of this encounter were not elaborated upon.
The Israeli forces have made seven arrests in the West Bank overnight and stated that over 2,550 individuals have been detained in the territory since the escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
The West Bank has been under Israeli military control since the Six-Day War in 1967. Tensions in the area have been heightened since the start of hostilities between Israel and Hamas. According to the Palestinian health ministry, since October 7, at least 321 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli troops or settlers, and over 520 Palestinians lost their lives in the territory in the previous year.
