Joel Embiid overcame recent health issues to score an impressive 50 points, leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 131-126 win over the Washington Wizards in Wednesday’s NBA game.
After missing two games due to illness, the reigning NBA MVP returned in stellar form, achieving a season-best performance on the road. This marked Embiid’s second high-scoring game against the Wizards this season, following a 48-point game on November 6.
Despite not feeling fully recovered, with Embiid admitting post-game that he was struggling with chest discomfort, his contribution of 13 rebounds and seven assists was crucial. The victory enhanced the Sixers’ record to 13-7, keeping them fourth in the Eastern Conference.
Tyrese Maxey supported Embiid’s effort with 26 points, and De’Anthony Melton contributed 19 points. For the Wizards, Jordan Poole was the top scorer with 23 points, but the team’s 17th loss left them near the bottom in the East.
In other matches, Nikola Jokic’s triple-double couldn’t prevent the Denver Nuggets, current NBA champions, from a 111-102 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Despite an early lead, the Nuggets were overpowered in the final quarter.
Jokic ended with 22 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Jamal Murray led Denver’s scoring with 23 points. The Clippers secured the win with Paul George scoring 25 points and James Harden adding 20.
Luka Doncic shined with 40 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in the Dallas Mavericks’ dominant 147-97 victory over the Utah Jazz. This performance marked Doncic’s 60th career triple-double, surpassing Larry Bird in the NBA’s all-time rankings.
The Mavericks improved their record to 12-8, while the Jazz dropped to 7-14.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs continued their struggling season with a 102-94 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, marking their 15th straight defeat. Despite Victor Wembanyama’s 12 points, the Spurs languished at the bottom of the Western Conference.
Spurs coach Gregg Popovich lamented the team’s poor three-point shooting, with only eight successful attempts from 36.
In other games, Steph Curry’s 31 points led the Golden State Warriors to a 110-106 win over the Portland Trail Blazers, improving their record to 10-11. Desmond Bane’s outstanding 49 points helped the Memphis Grizzlies defeat the Detroit Pistons 116-102, pushing Memphis’ record to 6-14 and leaving Detroit at the bottom of the East.
