Following a pause due to the October 7th Hamas attack and subsequent war, the corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has recommenced. Netanyahu faces charges of fraud, breach of trust, and accepting bribes in three distinct cases that involve influential media executives and affluent associates, all of which he denies.
In the latest hearing, police investigators are set to be questioned regarding claims that Netanyahu advanced regulatory benefits for a telecommunications company in return for positive coverage from a news outlet under its ownership.
The trial, which began in 2020, had been temporarily suspended in the wake of the Hamas attack, leading to an emergency status for the nation’s courts and a near-complete shutdown. The most recent session of the trial was held at the end of September, prior to the pause.
