Supermodel Cara Delevingne’s Theatre Debut in ‘Cabaret’

Cara Delevingne is poised to make her first appearance on the theatrical stage in the West End production of “Cabaret” in London. In this celebrated musical, the renowned supermodel will take on the pivotal role of Sally Bowles. Alongside her, Luke Treadaway will step into the role of the Emcee.

Delevingne and Treadaway are set to succeed musicians Self Esteem and Jake Shears, who have been portraying these characters since September of the previous year. Notably, Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley played the roles of the Emcee and Bowles respectively in 2021.

“Cabaret” is recognized as one of the greatest musicals ever, set against the backdrop of Berlin between 1929 and 1930, during the decline of the Jazz Age and the rise of the Nazis. The musical’s narrative centers around the vibrant nightlife at the Kit Kat Klub, chronicling the story of American writer Clifford Bradshaw and his relationship with English cabaret performer Sally Bowles, while the Emcee oversees the club’s activities.

Commenting on her upcoming role, Cara Delevingne expressed immense excitement about making her stage debut in such a legendary part. She mentioned her inspiration from the talented actors who have previously played Sally Bowles in various productions, including the current West End version. Delevingne is eagerly looking forward to joining the cast and being part of this exceptional production.

Delevingne is no stranger to acting, having previously showcased her talents in films like “Anna Karenina,” “Suicide Squad,” and the series “Only Murders in the Building.”

“Cabaret” features music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a script by Joe Masteroff. The musical is an adaptation of the 1951 play “I Am a Camera” by John Van Druten, itself based on Christopher Isherwood’s 1939 novel “Goodbye to Berlin.”

Cara Delevingne is scheduled to begin her portrayal of Sally Bowles from March 11, continuing through June.
