BEIRUT: The country's security situation is being tightly controlled ahead of New Year’s Eve, the Lebanese Army has said, emphasizing that its personnel are ready to deal with any incidents they might face.

The Army’s comments came in a response to a series of questions from The Daily Star.

“The Army and the Army Intelligence are exerting strenuous efforts in order to control any acts of vandalism or activities that disrupt security in different areas, and as a result security is highly controlled,” the Army stated, via email.

“Nevertheless, this does not rule out the possibility of acts that can breach security. The Army, hence, is in complete readiness to preserve domestic stability.”

The Army underscored that it has coordinated with the country's various security agencies throughout the holiday period.
