The White House welcomed Sunday's verdict against Saddam Hussein with an announcement that "you now have absolute proof that you've got an independent judiciary in Iraq." One cannot deny that the former dictator, who killed as many as 300,000 Iraqis during the course of his rule and was sentenced to death for his role in the killing of more than 140 Iraqis from the village of Dujail in 1982.
