BEIRUT: Authorities foiled an escape attempt by inmates at Roumieh Prison, Lebanon’s largest detention facility, after finding ropes dangling from a guard tower at the jail, security sources said Monday.

Four 17-meter long ropes were found dangling from the guard tower, the sources said, adding that police also uncovered a passage that the prisoners had dug for their escape attempt.

The government’s commissioner, Adjutant Dani Al-Zoobi, arrived at the prison and launched an investigation into the incident at the prison.
