BEIRUT: Half a dozen media activists have been killed over the last 48 hours in fighting between government troops and rebel forces, according to pro-opposition media.
They said that Ammar Tabajo (known as Mohammad al-Said), Hasan Haroun (Mohammad al-Tayyeb), Akram Salik (Saleh Abdul-Rahman), Ammar Kheiti and Yassin Haroun were killed while covering fierce battles in the Ghouta region surrounding the capital.
The activists became prominent sources of information for media covering the conflict and risked their lives preparing reports on the humanitarian situation as well as the military developments in Syria’s war, opposition sources said.
A sixth media activist, Yamen Naddaf from Shahba Press, was killed in Aleppo while covering clashes in the Sheikh Said neighborhood, the outlet said Sunday.
